Hi, I’m Nathan Spencer — founder of BuildAdvocate and a long-time builder here in Austin, Texas. For over 20 years, I ran construction and pool companies (Hartel Homes and Accredited Pools), managing everything from high-end custom builds to complex renovation projects. I’ve seen firsthand how overwhelming construction can be for homeowners — especially when you’re not sure who to trust or what steps come next.
That’s why I started BuildAdvocate: to give homeowners the tools, guidance, and insider knowledge to run their own projects with confidence. Whether you’re tackling a remodel, resolving an expired permit, or dealing with a construction defect, I work directly for you — not the contractor — to make sure the work gets done right, the budget stays on track, and no one takes advantage of you along the way.
